House Report
We were so happy that our regular membership income was way up over recent years. Ann Rose made a very large donation in honor of her mother, Sharron, who died in late 2016. This allowed the club to take on the first of two major projects needed at Lone Mountain. We call it the Roof/Dining/Bathhouse Project and you can read all about it here. The most important thing this accomplished was removing the chimneys so that all roof leaks were eliminated, rebuilding the sagging window seat in the dining room, and reducing wall leakage in the bathhouse.
The only other major repair needed is repairing and flashing all exterior windows in order to eliminate wall leakage in the house. Estimate for that job is $4000-5000. Hopefully we can raise enough money to do that repair in 2018. (update 2020: we have not)

Club Report
Our dear cousin, Betsy Rose Taylor, died soon after joining the club this year. She will be dearly missed. She would be happy to know things are still going strong at Lone Mountain, as 2017 was a very big year for Club Payne and the Lone Mountain House.
In January the Club Payne Bylaws were amended by unanimous vote of the Directors. This was the first bylaw amendment since Club Payne was established in 2009, and marked an attempt to make the rules of the club align more closely with the manner in which the club is actually run. The changes were made to accomplish several major goals:
- Raise more money for the LMH
- Encourage more Payne Family members to join
- Provide incentives for members to join every year
- Tie amount of money donated to club to ownership/dissolution rights and voice in club affairs
- Make the club easier to run
Basically the amount of dues to join Club Payne is now a flexible amount depending on the ability of each Payne descendant to pay. The minimum amount required is set at $25, which will make membership affordable to all. Higher contributions will earn greater ownership and voting power. There are now certain benefits to keeping membership continuous rather than skipping years. To make things simpler, we increased the terms of Directors and Officers to five years so we do not have to have annual elections. (The current directors will serve through new elections in 2020.)
The result of these changes has been profound. Membership in Club Payne reached 27, including three first-time members:
- Laurie Peacock (Anne Branch)
- Suzanne Tremaine (Irene Branch)
- Jack Scully (Sally Branch)
